Room Acoustics
Treatments
Finishes
Shaping
The acoustical experience of a space is dependent upon its shape, volume, and finishes. We work with design teams, owners, and end users to understand the intended function(s) of a room along with the design constraints, such as budgetary, spatial, aesthetic, and so on. We then provide recommendations for type, location, and quantities of treatments as well as room shaping to achieve optimal room acoustics in each project’s critical spaces.
Sound Isolation
Assemblies
Glazing
Doors
Ideal functionality of any occupied area can only be achieved if it is adequately isolated from disruptive noise. We speak with stakeholders to understand what they need from their room(s), building(s), or campus(es). Once stakeholders’ needs are known, it is our job to understand and discover the various sound sources which will affect a project then provide practical design solutions to mitigate sound sources as necessary.
Equipment Noise Control
Attenuators
Enclosures
Isolators
MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) systems are essential utilities and infrastructure for all modern interior spaces. However, the equipment for these systems are capable of generating very high noise levels. We coordinate with design teams to obtain information necessary for the prediction and/or measurement of acoustical impacts from MEP equipment to occupied spaces. Then we provide design options to control equipment noise without impacting MEP systems operations.
Environmental Acoustics
Surveys
Assessments
Building Envelopes
Acoustical impacts from exterior noise sources (traffic, mechanical equipment, people) are a critical consideration for any occupied space, especially in dense, urban environments. While a project team cannot directly impact environmental noise sources, they can collaborate to design exterior assemblies capable of reducing environmental noise to acceptable interior levels. We can provide acoustical surveys and modeling to quantify and predict future environmental noise levels then offer effective design solutions for your project.
Standards
Design Targets
Guidelines
Typicals
Acoustical standards are extremely effective tools for anyone wanting consistent performance and functionality or assured end user satisfaction. We are experienced in producing acoustical standards which can be used for many years to guide design teams. These can be tailored for each client’s specific needs; they can be limited to high-level guidelines or very detailed with specific products and targets. We can also provide designs which adhere to existing acoustical standards.
Code Compliance
LEED
CALGreen
WELL Building
Many projects require documented compliance with local, state, or federal acoustical codes. We are experienced in providing acoustical designs which adhere to standards. While compliance is best achieved by engaging us early in the design process, we can be brought on during any stage of a project to assess compliance with acoustical codes, such as:
-
- CALGreen
- LEED
- WELL Building
- CHPS
- Local noise ordinances and more
